1. The Portrait of Adele Bloch Bauer I ($135,000,000)
This painting is a masterpiece by the renowned Gustav Klimt. It is considered to be the most expensive painting in the world to have ever been sold. In June 2006 it was sold for US$135 million to Ronald Lauder for his Neue Galerie in New York City. It is still on display at this amazing gallery. Adele Bloch Bauer was the only model he painted twice. The title of his second painting is Adele Bloch Bauer II. The first one was painted in 1907; he finished his second painting in 1912.
However it is disputable whether Klimt’s painting was the painting sold for the biggest amount of money. Its fierce competition is Jackson Pollock’s painting under the title No.5, 1984 that was bought for US$140 million.

This panting entitled Garçon à la Pipe meaning Boy with a Pipe is Pablo Picasso’s work. He painted it when he was 24years old and was in his Rose period. It is oil on canvas and is the second most expensive painting in the world. It depicts a boy from Paris who is holding a pipe in his hand and had a flower wreath on his head.

It is another work of Pablo Picasso and it was painted in 1941. It depicts Dora Maar, Picasso’s lover sitting on a chair with a cat on her shoulder. It is a part of a private collection.
4. Portrait of Dr. Gachet ($82,500,000)
It was painted by Vincent van Gogh in 1890. It depicts the Doctor who took care of the painter during his last days. It’s also a part of a private collection. There are two authentic versions of the portrait, both painted in June 1890.

Painted by Claude Monet in 1919 Le Bassin Aux Nympheas aka Water Lily Pond belongs to series of water lilies paintings. It is also an oil on canvas.
6. Bal Au Moulin de la Galette ($78,000,000)
Also known as Le moulin de la Galette is a painting by Pierre-Auguste Renoir. It’s is on display in the Musée d’Orsay in Paris and is one of Impressionism’s most celebrated masterpieces. It depicts a Sunday afternoon at Moulin de la Galette in Paris. It was painted in 1876.
