Some of the Most Reckless Doctors
Being a doctor is one of the toughest jobs in the world. You have to work long hours, giving your best to care for others thus neglecting your personal life in order to grow professionally. When you are a doctor you have to be good at what you do. No slips are permitted since you are holding somebody’s life in your hands. That’s why doctors need to take the Hippocratic Oath seriously. However, there are those who have no moral standards and such those cases malpractice can occur. Here are some of the most reckless doctors to have ever practiced medicine.
1. Sued for Branding a Patient’s Uterus

Ingrid Paulicivic has had her uterus removed. After performing a hysterectomy, a California gynecologist used a cauterizing tool to brand his patient’s name on her removed uterus. Dr. Red Alinsod used an “electrocautery device to carve and burn” the word “Ingrid” on her uterus. Ingrid wasn’t flattered at all by his gesture and decided to sue him, adding that she finds his conduct despicable.
2. Operating While Watching a Football Match and Drinking

Vicente Bettschart is every patient’s worst nightmare. This surgeon was reported drinking alcohol while performing a complicated surgery, but that is not all- he is such a football fan that he couldn’t miss out on a football match between France & Mexico in South Africa so he had to watch it while operating. The incident occurred in 2010while he was operating on a 17-year-old patient’s abdomen. He also went out of the OR for an half an hour and then he came back to finish the surgery.
3. This Doctor Used His Sperm To Impregnate Several Patients

Cecil Jacobson, a former fertility doctor, used his own sperm to impregnate several of his patients. His patients were unaware of this fact. Thus he was arrested. The women had been told that they would be impregnated via in-vitro fertilization with the sperm of an anonymous donor who matched their husband’s characteristics. Jacobson was sentenced to five years in jail. He was the same doctor who in the 1960s claimed to have successfully engineered the impregnation of a male baboon. In 1994 his story became a movie, called The Babymaker.
4. The Doctor Who Inserted A Screwdriver into His Patient’s Back

Robert Ricketson is a Hawaiian surgeon who has intentionally inserted a Screwdriver into his patient’s back. Instead of inserting titanium rod into a patient’s back Ricketson put a screwdriver into his patient’s back because he didn’t have a titanium rod at hand. He thought that it was a good call. The screwdriver piece snapped days after the January 2001 surgery, and Iturralde (his 73-year-old patient) underwent three additional surgeries to insert the proper titanium rods and to repair other complications. Unfortunately, Iturralde was rendered a paraplegic and died two years later. Later on it was found out that his medical license was suspended earlier in Oklahoma.
5. The Doctor Who Places Temporary Tattoos on His Patient

Dr. Steven Kirshner, board certified orthopedic surgeon likes to make jokes with his patients. But it seems that sometimes he goes overboard. Allegedly, Steven likes putting temporary tattoos on his patients while they are under anesthesia. Elizabeth Mateo accused her orthopedic surgeon of “rubbing a temporary tattoo of a red rose” on her belly while she was under anesthesia. The patient discovered the tattoo below the intimate line the next morning, when her husband was helping her get dressed to go home after the operation for a herniated disc. She didn’t find his joke funny.
