Way to confuse your poor kid. How creepy.

There is nothing “creepy” about LISTENING to the needs of your child. If your child feels the need to express his or her self as something different, then if you are a RESPECTING, LOVING parent you give your child the tools and resources to make that happen. This family obviously cares about their “daughter”, kudos to them!!!!

    Way to raise a gay…

More like “A Boy Who is in Fact A Faggot”

Wow, you guys are so ignorant. Gender identity disorder exists. Look it up. It’s super easy for even the most ignorant to Google. Good for the parents for loving their child and allowing her to be herself.

You sound like someone with a lot of prejudice. You may not be gay and sure you would not like a child of yours to be gay… but that’s no way to talk about a child or act against someone that is gay. I’m sorry if you feel offended, but if you are a “real man”, you should show a bit more of honor and character…
Acting with all that prejudice only makes it sure for me and for the world that you might be very insecure with your own sexuality and OF COURSE you are trying way too hard to seem to be a man.

Damn, how many ignorant people here. A lot of you guys think that being a “REAL MAN” is showing prejudice against gays and getting all ladies and trying hard to seem “macho”.
Well, too bad that people like that are not real men… actually they are just little boys insecure with themselves that are trying way too hard to act like a ‘man.’
A REAL MAN would have enough character and honor to not have any prejudice. Shit, you guys are a lame joke.

Gender identity disorder. Also, playing with dolls doesnt make you a female … What sense does this all make?
Get the kid some help fer crying out loud

    1. I think it’s funny that both gay bashers and gay supporters instantly assume this child is gay. This fact is never even talked about. My issue with this is not that I dislike gay people (in fact i don’t think being gay has anything to do with this) but more so with the fact that he IS a boy. It doesn’t make any sense to encourage a boy to think he is a girl. If he wants to wear dresses and play with dolls and have long hair that’s fine in my book but at the end of the day he has a penis and that makes him male. The way he chooses to express himself (e.g. his clothes, hair, hobbies) is completely his choice but the only reason to call him a her is the fact that we think if you wear dresses and play with dolls you must be female. This is obviously not the case as this child has proven. I still will insist upon the fact that he is a boy because he has male anatomy. I’m sorry but having a penis is not a choice and if we do not make the distinction between male and female based on physical attributes then how should we determine it? Should everyone be allowed to decide whether they are male or female? Where does it end? If I told you I felt black (i’m white) does that mean I should be allowed to be considered a black man in the eyes of society? What is being “male”, “female”, “black”, “white”, or whatever else other than a physical attribute? If you truly believe there are differences between those distinctions or then their physical attributes then I say to you that you are in fact the close minded one.

  • Dan

*meant to say “other than their physical attributes”

But if you read the heading, it says that s/he considers him/herself a girl “According to his parents not only did he play with dolls but since he could talk he also insisted on actually being a girl.” I think that identification as being a boy or a girl isn’t based solely on one’s sex. I think that gender should be equally important, if not more important, because the issue at hand deals with how she is going to perceive herself and be perceived by others. If the issue were dealing with how she should be seen in regard to physical differences (“can she compete in female sporting events?” for example) then I think that yes, she should be treated as a male.

If you’re going with the physical model, perhaps the child’s brain resembles more that of a female than a male. If that’s the case, then would you agree that he is a she? If your brain were transplanted into the body of a woman, would you say that you are now a woman? How about if it were transplanted into a machine?

I think the main issue in this conversation is whether boyhood or girlhood depends more on sex or gender.
